Tickenham Golf Club has 4 PGA Professionals

Andrew Sutcliffe Owner and Joint Head Professional, was made a Fellow of the PGA in 2006 and played on the European Tour in the 1980's.

Sarah Sutcliffe Joint Head Professional, qualified and won the award from Titleist as the top Graduate from the PGA Academy in 2003 and was made an Advanced Professional in March 2010.

Alan Johnston is PGA qualified and a very experienced coach, from Belfast Ireland.  He moved in February 2009 from a Head Professionals position in Holsworthy, Devon to concentrate on teaching at Tickenham.

Leigh Jones is PGA qualified and moved from Stourbridge Golf Club in August 2010 to concentrate on teaching.  He is a keen player winning several events in the Midlands Region in 2010 and is looking forward to doing the same in the West Region.

Once qualified they all maintain their "AA" status within the PGA ensuring you have lessons with Professionals who are current in their profession.  All Professionals are Criminal Record Bureau Checked (CRB)  to enable them to teach children and attend Safeguarding & Protecting Children, Equity in Coaching, First Aid and all other essential courses.

You can benefit from a wealth of qualified experience.  Unlike some other sports, you cannot learn to play golf effectively without expert tuition.  Lessons are essential before venturing on a course.  Practice what we teach you and make rapid progress.

Go4Life Adult Beginners

Learn to play golf in a fun, social environment.  Get out into the fresh air and get active

10 week course for adult beginners taking in Level 1 and Level 2 courses detailed below, partially funded by the Go4Life scheme.  All equipment including balls and golf clubs are provided during the lessons as required.

Adult Beginner Groups - Level 1
Are you a complete beginner?  This is a great option.  Five lessons to prepare you for the course.  The five lessons cover putting, chipping, main swing, basic rules and etiquette and even playing a couple of holes on the golf course.  Meet new friends and learn to play golf in a social and informal environment.  Beginner Groups are usually on weekday evenings 7pm-8pm.

£55 for 5 x 1 hour sessions

Adult Beginner Groups - Level 2
This is a follow on from the level 1 beginner groups.  Learn to pitch, play from bunkers, use longer irons and woods and play again on the course.

£55 for 5 x 1 hour sessions

Learn to Play in a Day
Learn to putt, chip, pitch, play from bunkers, swing, use long irons and woods and even play a few holes of golf - all in a day! in a small group of 3-4 adults.

£80 per day 9:30am - 4pm

Private Lessons (25 Minutes)

Lessons given on putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, main swing, awkward lies, course play, course management, rules, advice on club fitting and club suitability.

Lessons are available 7 days per week till 8:30pm

In private lessons range balls are extra when needed.

IPAD Video Analysis
Using the latest technology we record and then analyse your swing together helping you to make improvements.  We then record your swing again for you to see the changes.  Videos can be emailed to you.  Same prices as above.

Swing MOT
One hour video lesson, ½ hour short game, 1½ playing lesson.  DVD to take away.

Approach Master Class
Specialist 5 week course dedicated to the short game.  Gain essential knowledge about your current club, ball and shot analysis.  Refine your shot choice and technique, including creating spin and control.  Learn from an ex-European Tour Player how to play by yardages and produce meaningful course planners.  Learn and control swing positions to improve distance control.  Ensure more meaningful practice sessions.  Please ask for dates.

£95 for 6 x 1 hours sessions

PGA Professionals
PGA Professionals are universally recognised as the experts and teachers of golf.  There is no quick and easy way to achieve PGA qualification.  PGA Members earn their status only by undergoing a multi years series of work, studying and training in every aspect of golf, including teaching, sports science, club technology, repairs, business & club management, tournament organising, rules of golf and retailing.

All the Professionals at Tickenham are fully qualified PGA Members and maintain their AA status through Continuing Professional Development ensuring your are taught by Professionals with up to date knowledge.

Tickenham Golf Club is the first club in Somerset to be awarded Golfmark and Clubmark accreditation, demonstrating its hard work and dedication to junior and beginners golf.
The English Golf Union and English Women's Golf Association developed the Golfmark award to identify and acknowledge golf facilities in England that are junior and beginner friendly.
Clubmark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections.
Golfmark evaluates golf clubs in key areas - coaching, playing, club environment, sport equity, ethics, child protection and duty of care.
